Description : The necropolis of Crocefisso del Tufo is an Etruscan necropolis located at the base of the cliff of Orvieto , which reached its maximum extension between the middle of the sixth century BC and the middle of the following century. It is accessed from a pedestrian street connected to the pedestrian walkway that surrounds the cliff. The cemetery has graves dating from the viii th to the iii th century BC. AD Its peak is between the middle of the vi th and v th century BC. AD , period to which dates back the layout of the tracks along orthogonal axes of the Hippodamian plane . The interiors of the tombs are approximately 60 to 70 cm below the present ground. The tombs are a dado , in squared blocks of tuff , laid dry and surmounted by a pseudo-vault roof ( a volta ). The crowning of the tombs was made of earth on which were placed nipples. Their number is about 70, of which a few, mainly small single-family tombs of about 3 × 2 m , can be visited. Inside, on the back and on one of the sides are the benches where the deceased were placed, often in pairs, both buried and cremated.
